I see the primary role of the counselor as being a social-emotional
educator. A counselor is a teacher just like a classroom teacher, but
instead teaches a different subject area. And, on most days, a dozen different subject areas!
When I was in college, my professors encouraged me to only pursue a job if I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. If you are passionate about what you do, you don't need external reminders that what you do is important - it's just what you do. All day. Every day.
